GENERAL PROJECT INFORMATION

*Professional Components Needed
Primary care projects Family/general medicine, family/general dentistry, internal medicine and its non-invasive subspecialties, ENT, pediatrics, dermatology and OB/GYN, nurses and EMT’s.
General surgery projects General surgeons, urologists, GYNs, anesthesiologists, CRNAs, surgical nurses and CSTs.
Specialized surgery projects Such as plastic and eye projects require the appropriate surgeons and technical assistants. In general, GHO projects do not include high-risk procedures, or those requiring extensive follow-up, unless the proper facilities and local attending physicians are available.
PFI projects These teams work in conjunction with Prison Fellowship International, ministering within prisons. Participants must be 18 years of age.
Physicians Assistants Needed on all projects. Students are welcome.
Nurses Needed on all projects. Nursing assistants and students are welcome.
Pharmacists Needed on all projects. Pharmacy technicians and students are welcome.
Optometrists Needed on all projects. We will supply eyeglasses to dispense.
Physical Therapists Needed on all projects.
Medical and dental students 3rd and 4th year may work with patients under supervision on most projects. Others are welcome as support staff.
Medical technologists Needed for projects where laboratory facilities are available.
Psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, other mental health professionals Regretfully, cannot usually work in their respective fields because of language and cultural differences and the limited opportunities available for treating individual patients. They are, of course, welcome in supporting roles.
Support staff Needed for duties ranging from sterilizing instruments to registering patients. Many spouses and teenagers find this a rewarding way to have a role in the professional ministry of their spouse or parent. Please note that minors (under 18) are not appropriate on prison ministry projects.
Interpreters Needed on projects in non-English speaking areas. Medical terminology is not necessary, as a list of important terms will be available.

PROJECT FEES, DEPOSITS, CANCELLATIONS AND TAX RECEIPTS:
Dates listed are U.S. departure and return dates. Total costs include the “project fee” which covers room, board, ground transportation and other project expenses. (Does not include passport, visa or immunizations, domestic airfare to gateway city or international travel). Project fees cannot be pro-rated for partial participation. A $150 non-refundable/non-transferable application fee is required for all applications. If the project is fully booked, or if an application is not approved, the full amount of the application fee may be refunded. Participants who cancel after the group is ticketed will be responsible for the cost of the airline tickets (international tickets will be booked and billed by GHO); they will then be free to use or exchange them at the discretion of the vendor. Please note that discounted tickets are usually non-transferable and require extra fees for exchanges. IRS tax-deductible receipts will be issued for all donations of $25 or more toward CMDA project expenses. Revenue Canada receipts are not available through CMDA at this time.

AIRFARES:
Group airfares are booked from gateway cities, and these discounts require participation in the group travel arrangements. Everyone must travel to the foreign port of entry together to get the group fare. Persons desiring to deviate from the group itinerary may arrange to do so only with the pre-approval of the GHO Director. Special mission discount fares are booked when available. As a general rule, the earlier such fares are booked, the lower the price will be. All costs are quoted as of publication date and are subject to change without notice. Once registered for a project and ticketed for the flights, there will be no further changes in cost to project participants. All participants are responsible for their own airfare to the “gateway city” point of departure from their hometown (that is, all domestic airfare).
