INTERNATIONAL CHINA CONCERN RESPONDING TO CHINA’S MOST NEEDY ORPHANS
Every month hundreds of China’s orphaned daughters find new homes and love as they are taken home with their adoptive parents. While this is something to rejoice about, there is also a group of children who are left behind in China’s orphanages, many of whom are ineligible to even make the adoption lists. These children are those with disabilities and imperfections. With stretched financial and human resources, the government welfare centers struggle to provide these children what they need and these precious children are often left in desperate situations. International China Concern Ltd. (ICC), an organization made up of both foreigners and local Chinese people, has responded to the call of these children and is partnering with the government to provide the resources and skills needed in caring for them. ICC is a Christian organization, believing that God cares and loves even the smallest and weakest among us, and that by extending a hand to help these little ones, God extends His hand. ICC presently has a field-based self-funded positions available in China: Physiotherapists will provide “hands on” assessment, diagnostic, rehabilitative and preventative services within an interdisciplinary health team with an ICC project location. The goal is to evaluate the children’s needs based on present disability, prescribe individualized treatment plans, and ultimately ensure the realization of maximum physical mobility and functional independence. Additionally the position exists to provide training and instruction to the local therapy assistants so that treatment programs can be continued at the end of service period.
